Two themes are clearly shaping the market right now: Regulation and Duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, greater regulation is a positive step. It brings structure and raises standards. But without consistent enforcement backed by real government budget, compliant retailers carry the burden while illicit trade carries on regardless. The illicit tobacco market already accounts for 25% of sales. In vapes, the problem is widely considered to be significantly worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the Vaping Products Duty, this is the biggest structural shift this category has ever seen and retailers need to move now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three areas to focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Supply chain: Only work with suppliers who hold master distribution rights. Availability issues are coming for those who don’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Stock control: Get disciplined now. Anything left unsold once sell-through periods close becomes a real problem fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Know the penalties: This sits with HMRC, not just Trading Standards. The consequences of holding non-duty-paid stock will make the disposable ban fines look minor. Retailer education on this point is critical.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
